Cost Accountant

Grayslake, Illinois

As a Cost Accountant, you will bring your skills and experience to play an instrumental role in helping senior leaders make solid business decisions by being responsible for the ongoing analysis of product costs, development of new product costs and margin analysis. You are also a business support person to the Manufacturing and Accounting teams to provide cost analysis support to Management. This is an onsite role in our Grayslake, IL headquarters focusing on the manufacturing environment as it relates to financial statement preparation, financial analysis, budgets, and forecasts.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, analyze, and report monthly financials and quarterly gross margin analysis by product group and customer.
  • Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost.
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
  • Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, analyze inventory evaluation, inventory roll forward, and general ledger account analysis.
  • Maintain the Cost Accounting System.
  • Partner with Operations to develop and implement labor and overhead rates as well as yield assumptions for budget.
  • Gather data to determine direct costs of business activity, such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
  • Analyze inventory valuation and adjustments on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify potential cost efficiencies and recommend changes.
  • Ensure accuracy of item data set-up to include accuracy of bill of materials and follow-up on changes.
  • Assist with developing new product costing in conjunction with R&D and Operations.
  • Perform ad hoc product/plant cost analysis to support Operations, R&D and Finance when necessary.
